The headquarters of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation in The Hague hosted the meeting of the Europol Management Board on 18-19 March 2025, with the participation of the Commander-in-Chief, General Marek Boron. This is one of the most important meetings during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, emphasising the exceptional importance of Poland's role in coordinating EU security measures. The visit of the head of the Polish Police to Europol included a formal meeting of the Europol Management Board, numerous bilateral meetings, as well as events related to the publication of an important analytical report SOCTA and the promotion of the Polish Police and international cooperation.
Visit of the Commander-in-Chief to Europol in connection with the meeting of the Europol Management Board during the Polish Presidency
On the first day of the visit, as Head of the Europol National Unit, Commander-in-Chief, General Marek Boroń met with the Polish community, including representatives of the Polish Liaison Office at Europol representing, among others, the Police, the Border Guard and the National Tax Administration of the Ministry of Finance.
The Chief of Police also met with Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle and other Europol representatives in the context of the Management Board meeting.
The Europol Management Board plays a key role in the functioning of Europol. It is a body that sets the direction of Europol's activities and supervises the implementation of strategic tasks. The Management Board meetings bring together representatives of the Member States of the European Union and the senior management of Europol. The Europol Management Board is the central decision-making body that directs the agency's activities to effectively combat serious international organised crime and terrorism in the European Union.
The meeting in The Hague was an opportunity to discuss current issues related to the agency's activities and strategic areas of its operation. The meeting was attended by Europol's senior management, including Europol Executive Director Catherine de Bolle, representatives of the European Union Member States, and General Marek Boroń representing Poland.
In connection with the Polish presidency, from January 2025, the duties of the Chairman of the Europol Management Board are performed by the Director of the International Police Cooperation Bureau of the National Police Headquarters, colonel Ireneusz Sieńko.
Regular meetings of the Management Board are fundamental to the effective work of Europol and take place at least four times a year. According to the established procedure, two meetings take place in The Hague and two in each half-year in the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This rotational location emphasises the commitment of the Member States and ensures closer cooperation with the country holding the EU presidency.
The next meeting of the Europol Management Board will take place on 25-26 June 2025 in Warsaw and will be the culmination of Poland's presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Role and speech of the Chief Commissioner of the Police during the SOCTA conference
During the Europol Management Board meeting on 18 March 2025, the SOCTA 2025 Report (Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment) was officially launched. On the same day, a press conference was held after the launch of the SOCTA report and was broadcast live on Europol's main website. High-ranking representatives of European institutions took part in this key press conference, including Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle, Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner, and Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Maciej Duszczyk.
The participation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, General Marek Boron, was particularly significant. He gave a speech during the conference concerning, among other things, international cooperation in the fight against organised crime. The presence of the Commissioner indicates the commitment of Polish law enforcement agencies to the fight against serious and organised crime at the European level.
